John Schneider (Dukes of Hazard) is a fan of RJ’s previous band Dance Hall Pimps and placed several DHP tracks in his feature film Smothered – a horror comedy set in a Louisiana trailer park. John came back-stage one night after a DHP show, and asked if RJ could write and record a title track for the movie – and he needed it in 2 weeks. Although he was due to leave the country for 10 days of scuba diving in Indonesia, RJ said “You bet I can!” He arranged players and studio time for the day after his return and wrote the song while at sea. The track was delivered on-time – to John’s delight. RJ recorded a different version of Smothered for his EP Hell Hole Swamp and it remains an audience favorite in RJ’s live shows.
